Born in a backyard in Melbourne over home job tattoos, Camp Cope – Georgia Maq (vocals, guitar), Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich (bass) and Sarah Thompson (drums) – discuss real life working shifts in a hospital, living in rundown share houses in Footscray, being in love over long distance and what it’s like to be a woman in the world.
Camp Cope have toured tirelessly since their inception: shows with Modern Baseball, Screaming Females, PUP and Cayetana, a headlining slot on Weekender Fest, a national Laneway Festival spot and Golden Plains, and a string of their own sold out shows, including two sold out shows at Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE 2017. Their stunning self-titled debut album is still receiving praise from all corners of the world from the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum, DIY and FasterLouder, who rated it their #1 album of 2016. Their recently released split with Cayetana features their new single ‘Keep Growing’, which Brooklyn Vegan noted as “even more proof that this is a band that deserves your attention.”
In September 2016, Camp Cope together with bands and musicians from Australia and abroad united for the It Takes One campaign to say enough is enough: no more sexual and physical assault at shows. The campaign continues to drive conversation around safe spaces at shows, mostly recently with the announcement of the Hotline initiative at Laneway Festival.
